Shipping Management includes a range of activities and responsibilities that bridge the commercial and operational activities in a shipping company. The main aim of this role is to ensure that vessel operations run smoothly. The Country Manager must be able to quickly make accurate decisions and adapt to change.


Job Description:

  • Direct goals and objectives to match with the vision outlined for the organization.
  • Partner with high-level officers to grow the company, strengthen it and ensure its sustainability
  • Represent the company as required, client management including attendance of important functions, industry events and public meetings
  • Work closely with the Chairman and the Director of Finance & Business Strategies to prepare annual budgets, complete risk analysis on potential investments and advise the Management with regard to investment risk and return.
  • Work closely with Human Resources Department regarding hiring practices, payroll and benefit disbursement to be in line with approved manpower budgets.
  • Oversee quality control throughout the company, establishing goals for each department in partnership with division managers.
  • Liaise with your line manager and the different ports under their management.
  • Your principle role will be to ensure all operations flow smoothly and that all team members are well guided for progress.
  • Emphasis on Business Development with excellent client relationship management and clientele growth.
  • This means a Shipping Manager must maintain day-to-day contact with individuals working in planning, commercial and operational roles.
  • Play an active part in team communications for achieving and delivering results.
  • Optimize operations cost without jeopardizing the schedule and secure optimal resources utilized on the job to maintain an overall schedule.
  • Optimize existing business and propose business expansion feasibility.
  • In charge of Alphard Groups Commercial Operations and functions including diving and other operations, disputes, insurance and formulate annual business plan, budgets and reports for Senior Management approval.
  • Strategic planning, studying opportunities for expansion and recommending proposals to the Management for implementation.
  • Any other task assigned by Management.


Desired Profile:

  • Extensive shipping industry experience (Minimum 15 years of work experience)
  • Masters and or University degree, preferably in shipping related or demonstrate previous experience of an equivalent standard.
  • Outstanding organizational abilities and work in a structured manner.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.  You will also need to demonstrate your ability to handle difficult situations that may call for an element of negotiation or problem solving.
  • Sound understanding of the commercial and operational business processes within shipping.
  • Excellent financial and analytical skills are required for this role.
  • A great team leader with strong people management skills.
